#Howto Use ManageFlitter’s Hidden Gem to Bulk #Follow People on Twitter

Posted: 24 Jan 2014 02:52 AM PST

If you want to get more Twitter followers, there are certain things that you have to do to make others want to follow you.

Step 6 of the free guide to getting thousands of followers tells you that you need to start following people who are going to be interested in your tweets.

I showed you how you can do that manually using Twitter.com in this video.

However, there are a couple of problems with using Twitter.com when you use it to follow a large number of people.  If you follow a few hundred people a day:

  • You have to count manually how many people you followed.  If you don't count and you follow too many, Twitter will think that you are aggressively following others and will suspend your account.
  • It takes time out of your schedule to do this everyday or every other day.
  • If you don't use Twitter.com and you use automated tools that bulk follow people (like Tweetadder), then you're in violation of Twitter's rules.

But what if I told you that there was a totally legit way for you to follow 100 people at a time in less than 10 seconds?

Hello ManageFlitter, I love you

I've been on Twitter for a few years now and I've tried a TON of different tools to help manage my network.  By far, ManageFlitter is one of my favorite tools and I depend on it daily.

When it comes to bulk or mass following others on Twitter, there's a hidden gem on ManageFlitter that's often missed by a lot of people.  That's why I created this video that's at the top of this blog post.

More awesome ManageFlitter perks

ManageFlitter is more than just a great tool to help you follow a lot of people on Twitter.  With it you can also:

  • Turn your tweet into a Power Post by allowing ManageFlitter to send your tweets when a majority of your followers are online
  • Gives you great insights to see how successful your tweets are through analytics
  • Unfollow those who aren't following you back, fake accounts (spammers), inactive accounts and much more
  • Use powerful search functionality to find relevant people who you should be following
  • Ninja mode helps you combine powerful searches to find highly targeted Twitter users in your niche

What you can expect to pay for ManageFlitter

Isabella GuirguisThe adorable reason why I buy diapers

I've tried a number of premium tools to manage Twitter, many of them cost around $30 a month for their service.

After a while, it can get quite expensive especially when you have to pay for diapers like me :-) .

So you'll be pleasantly surprised to find out that ManageFlitter costs less than half of what other services charge you and it is one of the best tools out there.

ManageFlitter is $12/month.

Now I can manage my Twitter account without being in a rush to get my baby girl potty trained :-) .

Do you need ManageFlitter?

I think that anyone who wants to use Twitter's amazing social network to get more traffic back to their website, get more followers, or who wants to connect with others should use ManageFlitter.

If you're thinking that you don't need to use ManageFlitter to be successful on Twitter, just be sure that you know that it will take you 2-3 times more time for you to mass follow people on Twitter.

If you're not sure why you should be mass following people on Twitter or if you don't know what the advantages are to having thousands of followers, then read this post.

There are no contracts when signing up for a pro account with ManageFlitter, so if you don't think it's insanely awesome after trying it, just cancel your account.

You can also get a free account that will give you the ability to unfollow people only.  But the true power is in the follow features that come with the pro account.

Get Better Results with Twitter

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 08:23 PM PST

get-better-twitter-results

When you boil it right down there are two fundamental ways that you can get better results with Twitter.

1. You can get better engagement with your existing followers.

2. You can get more followers.

So let's take a few minutes and explore these two elements of Twitter success.

How to Get Better Results from Your Existing Followers

To get better results from your existing followers you should be proactive with your engagement and posting.

Set aside a few minutes each day to help spark conversation with people in your network. Share their content and spark conversation around common interests. Get to know your followers better and help them out if you can.

Identify the keywords that matter the most to your business and use Twitter search to find people tweeting about the topics that matter the most to you.manageflitter

Follow people back when the connection is relevant and this will help you retain the followers you have since there are free tools like Manage Flitter make it easy to mass unfollow people who don't follow you.

The content you share also plays a pivotal role in your Twitter success.  Share the kind of content you wish other people would tweet about.

For best results create your own content (ideally on your own WordPress blog) even if it is just list posts and compilations of content from other people.

How to Get More Followers and Multiply Your Success

Getting more Twitter followers is more of a challenge but it gets easier as you go since the more followers you have the more your momentum and social proof will make it easy for you to take your network to the next level.

If you have your own blog you can implement a Twitter "Follow Button" so that people can follow you directly from your site.  I use Twitter follow buttons for all of my websites, and you can find one in the right sidebar of this blog.  If you use a free blogging solution it is probably impossible for you to implement one of these.

If you want an instant boost of influence and social proof I recommend you check out the service: Grow My Twitter Network.

5 Ways to Get Your Pins Noticed on Pinterest

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 01:27 PM PST

social media how toIs Pinterest important to your business?

Do you want to get your pins in front of more people?

In this article, I'll show you 5 ways to get your pins noticed on Pinterest.

Why Pinterest?

Pinterest has over 70 million users globally.

The site also drives more referral traffic than Twitter, LinkedIn and Reddit combined. That's a lot of traffic.

And if you want to take advantage of it, your pins have to be seen not only by users who follow you, but also by new users.

Here are the tips:

#1: Optimize Your Name, Boards and Pins for Pinterest Search

Your Business Name

Many branded companies make the mistake of using only their branded name for their Pinterest user account name. This is not ideal, as they lose out on people searching for them with other terms.

Add a descriptive keyword that you want to be associated with to the end of your business name to increase the chances of your Pinterest business account being found through a search for Pinners.

pinner search

Users search for Pinners when they are looking for specific brands and people to follow.

This doesn't refer to the URL that Pinterest assigns you, but your "Business Name." You can edit your business name by going to Settings, and then Edit Profile.

pinterest business name entry

Add keywords to your business name to help you be found within Pinners search.

Nikki's Event Planning optimized her business name for the words wedding planner. But she didn't put Nikki's Events or Nikki's Event Planning in her business name, so her Pinterest account can't be located when using the Pinners search function.

A Modern Proposal has both the keywords wedding planner and A Modern Proposal in her business name, and therefore the business shows up in a Pinners search for both terms.

wedding planner pinners

Make sure that your business name on Pinterest contains both branded keywords, and keywords you want to be found with.

Even though users may not be able to see the keyword in your business name on a Pinner profile search result, adding a keyword in your business name will get your Pinterest account indexed in Pinner search results.

Your Board Titles

Put keywords in the titles of your Pinterest boards so other users can find them easily through the Boards search option.

pinterest board search

Pinterest users can also search for specific boards related to a search term under the Boards search option.

Catch My Party is a site where people can share ideas about parties, but it also operates as an e-commerce site for party supplies. Although they sell all sorts of party supplies, they titled a board "Baby Showers" to increase their chances of being found by people who are planning a shower.

Title your boards with keywords to help them show up in Pinterest search results.

To rank higher in Boards search results for specific keywords, place them as close to the beginning of your title as possible.

Your Pins

To increase the chances of showing up in Pins search results, include the keywords you want to be found for as early as possible in the description of your pin.

To find out which words people are using when they search for something on Pinterest, all you have to do is type words related to your industry in the search box and popular suggestions automatically pop up.

When I type in the word kitchen, autosuggestions like kitchen cabinets and kitchen décor pop up.

Here, Home Bunch promotes their cream kitchen cabinets with a short description of relevant keywords they want the pin to be associated with.

search term suggestions

Home Bunch's pin of cream kitchen cabinets shows up in search results thanks to good use of keywords in the description.

Keep your keyword descriptions short and simple to show up in relevant search results.

#2: Pin Consistently

Pinning consistently can help people discover your pins and increase the number of followers you have on Pinterest.

If you find yourself short on time, aim to pin 5-10 items a day. But if you do have the time and want to aggressively grow your Pinterest presence, then pinning 20-25 items a day is the best way to go according to Ahalogy, a Pinterest content distribution network.

But don't pin 20 pins a day for a week straight, and then nothing at all for three weeks. Pin on a daily basis when you can.

Sephora is a good example of a brand that consistently pins a lot of content, but is careful not to overload their followers with a swarm of pins all at once.

sephora board pins

Sephora consistently pins something to one of their boards every 4 or 5 hours.

#3: Pin at Optimal and Different Times of the Day

Pinterest works 24/7 and pinning at different times throughout the day and night will help your pins be seen by new local and global audiences.

According to Cynthia Sanchez's article 3 Unique Ways to Use Pinterest, you should test and use response data to determine the best times to pin to your boards. Use a Pinterest analytics tool like Tailwind App to find out which days and what times are generating the most repins and likes for your pins.

To reach pinners in another time zone, you can even schedule some of your pins with Viral Tag.

#4: Repin Your Old Pins

It's a fact that not every one of your followers is going to see all of your pins. That's why it's important to repin previous pins from weeks and even months ago.

If you're gaining new followers fast, this tactic will help them discover great content from the past that's buried under your other pins.

This is especially helpful for offline retail businesses because repinning old pins reminds people of products they may have forgotten about. According to a study done by Vision Critical, when participants were asked how Pinterest affected their in-store purchases, 17% responded, "It reminded me that I intended to buy that item."

#5: Participate on Pinterest Group Boards

Many successful group boards have hundreds of contributors and thousands of followers so they're a great way of getting your pins in front of a larger targeted audience in a much shorter time.

An incredibly well-managed group board is Packaging Pick of the Day by JoAnn Hines. In an interview she did with Lorna Sixsmith of Write On Track, JoAnn stated:

"The group board gets more repins per image because it's so popular. I've tested pinned [sic] my boards first vs. the group board and the pins on the group board are always more popular, even though personally I have more followers than my group board."

Food Bloggers of Canada created FBC Member Food Blog Posts to help promote the pinned blog posts of their members to a larger audience.

food bloggers of canada board

Group boards can also be used by any neighborhood business association or professional association.

This is a tactic that any neighborhood business association or professional association can mimic.

Find, Join or Create a Group Board

Pinterest Group Boards World lists dozens of group boards for topics ranging from women's shoes to knives.

While some group boards show contact information for the founder of the board in their descriptions, other boards require an invitation from a pinning member.

group board invite

If you can't find a group that matches your interest, consider starting one of your own.

To launch your own group board, create a themed board, then invite any pinners you follow who also follow you to become part of the group.

Conclusion

You don't want to leave the discovery of your pins to chance. Use these tips to create a great strategy and your Pinterest presence will be a success.

#Everything You Need to Know About #Timing Your #Tweets

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 07:06 AM PST

twitter-timing-tips

By: @Garin Kilpatrick

Leveraging timing on Twitter is a great way to increase your reach and get more traffic from Twitter to your website.

By strategically timing your tweets you will be able to get more retweets and more Twitter followers.

To schedule your tweets I recommend using Hootsuite (free for up to 5 social media accounts) for complete control over when your content goes out.

Another Twitter tool called buffer is a great way to space your tweets out automatically, without having to specify a specific time every time you tweet.

Buffer co-founder Leo recently published the findings of some very interesting data they derived from their users:

"People that start to Buffer their Tweets increased clicks on links they posted by 200% within 2 weeks of using. The amount of retweets doubles on average. Finally Buffer users increase their follower count by 104 followers within 3 weeks on average." – the study concluded.

The Twitter management and analysis tool SocialBro can examine the activity of your 5,000 top followers to determine the best time for you to tweet.  To access this feature click the "Best time to tweet" button from your dashboard.

socialbro-best-time-to-tweet

Below is an example of the type of heat map report SocialBro can generate.  A neat feature of this report is that it can be exported as a .PDF as well.

The only downside to this report is that it can take several minutes to create, but this might just be due to the fact that it had to analyze over 400,000 followers for my account.

Once your report is ready you will get an email notification which will bring you to the following heat map:

socialbro-shows-you-when-your-followers-are-online

The SocialBro report also has four other graphs visualizing the best times for you to tweet in different ways.

More Strategies for Timing Your Tweets

For those who have networks larger than 5,000 followers it is also helpful to consider some more general Twitter timing trends as well.

Social Media scientist Dan Zarrella analyzed a large sample of accounts and drew some conclusions about timing and Twitter.  Kiss Metrics visualized data from his study about twitter timing into the infographic below:

timing-and-twitter-infographic

Another important thing to take into consideration is the time zone of your followers.  If you are in North America and following mostly other North Americans you should consider the density of people in different time zones when timing your tweets.

population-by-timezone

Clearly the Eastern Time zone has the most people living in it so lining up a few tweets near the 5PM EST peak time is a good call.

Twitter is based in San Francisco and many people use Twitter in the PST so if you are in the EST like I am right now it's a good idea to line up some tweets until 8PM EST so that you hit the 5PM peak time for those living in the Pacific time zone.

Sysomos analyzed 20 million tweets and published some interesting Twitter stats, including the graph below showing that tweeting activity is busier during the week than it is on weekends:

twitter-activity-by-day-of-weekBased on my own experience I have noticed that I get many more retweets during the week, and it seems to me that many people take a break from their regular tweeting routines on the weekends.

The data visualization company lemon.ly came recently designed an infographic with some cool twitter timing stats that might give you some more insight into the art and science of Twitter timing.

twitter-timing-infographic

The main takeaway from this post is that you can have more influence and achieve more clicks if you space your tweets out so that more people see them and less people unfollow you.

Flooding your followers with a bunch of tweets at once will piss some people off, but tweeting is a good thing so don't feel like you absolutely must schedule every single tweet you send.

Twitter is based on the question what are you doing? after all, so send live tweets and make your tweets feel real.

How to Network with Influential People Using Twitter

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 03:00 AM PST

social media how toDo you want to use Twitter to promote your business?

Are you looking for ways to build relationships that matter on Twitter?

In this article, you'll discover how to build a strong Twitter community with influencers, which will benefit your business.

Building Connections With Twitter

Using Twitter to help your company grow isn't about the number of followers you have.

It's about building a community of followers who are passionate about your industry and who eventually become passionate about your brand.

The quickest and easiest way to develop a relevant Twitter community that grows your company is to find connectors and build relationships with them.

Connectors are called many things: thought leaders, industry experts, etc. They are the people who already have a thriving community and your customer's ear.

istock-image-find-your-connectors

You can benefit from forming relationships with connectors on Twitter. Image source: iStockPhoto.

By building relationships with influencers, you increase the chances of gaining your customer's ear and building your own strong community.

#1: Find the Influencers in Your Current Network

The best place to find connectors is in your current community; find influencers who are already following you.

By using Followerwonk, you can see your current Twitter followers ranked by a Followerwonk statistic known as social authority.

Followerwonk's social authority is based on the retweet rate of users' last few hundred tweets, the recentness of those tweets and a retweet-based model trained on user profile data. This number is by no means perfect, but retweets are so strongly correlated with a healthy community that they're a great way to identify relationships that you should pursue.

Even if the person has a great social authority rank, they're not worth reaching out to unless they're involved in your industry. It's not just about having a community—it's about building the right community.

social-authority-graph

Find influencers in your network by selecting the higher numbers in the right column.

#2: Know Your Competitors' Connections

One of the great things about Twitter is transparency. From @google to @smexaminer, you can see everything everyone is saying. This makes competitive research super-accessible.

Your competitors have networks that likely include influencers who are directly related to your industry. To find these people, follow the same process you followed above, but use each competitor's Twitter handle instead of your own.

Another tool that can help you find your competitors' useful friends is Open Site Explorer.

Type in your competitor's URL and go to the Just-Discovered tab to see the recent inbound links your competitors have gotten.

open-site-explorer

Here are the recent links to Social Media Examiner. Use the Just-Discovered tab on Open Site Explorer to find the recent inbound links for your competitor's website.

These are people who find your competitor's content valuable enough to link to. It's worth your time to build a relationship with them so they'll link to your content next time.

#3: Search for Influencers in Your Niche

There are several tools you can use to do this, but Followerwonk allows you to drill down to a niche in your search.

You can use social authority as your guide here, but it's more important to zero in on the person's focus. People who are directly involved in what your company values will be a better fit for your community.

For example, a digital strategy company that partners with HubSpot would do better to target an inbound marketing B2B HubSpot user instead of a general marketing user.

followerwonk-report

The more focused your search, the better your results.

To start off, build a list of 15-20 people from these categories who would be great to nurture relationships with—people who aren't only influential, but also align with your company's value and vision. Five of these people should feel a little bit out of your reach and seem larger-than-life in your industry.

#4: Follow and Interact With People on Twitter

To build your community, you need to focus on the conversations you have.

Quick tip: If you reply directly to a person, it will only show up in their feed and the feeds of people who follow you both. If you include your response in a retweet rather than a reply, it'll show up for all of the people who follow both of you.

Don't be afraid to reach out to people you may not have the courage to connect with in real life. In my experience, people are surprisingly responsive on Twitter.

Make sure when you do reach out, you bring value. Offer help, your opinion and a kind word. Don't ask for anything, including a follow-back. You're trying to build a relationship and you do this by being a giver.

#5: Set Up Alerts to Track Where Your Influencers Are Mentioned or Post Online

This can be done with Google Alerts, Fresh Web Explorer or a number of other tools.

Use the alerts to find where your industry influencers share their thoughts on the web outside of Twitter.

google-alerts

Get an email every time your influencer is mentioned on the web.

When you find a good article they've written or a place they're mentioned, share it on Twitter to shine the light on them. Again the key is to help them, not you.

#6: Add Value Outside of Twitter

Now that you know every time the influencers you follow are mentioned across the web, the number of ways you can promote them, point people toward their relevant resources and maintain relationships with them are wide open to you.

Share events they're speaking at, books they write and causes they support. Comment on their blogs and help them in all ways possible.

thank-you-tweet

Use Twitter to say thank you.

Each of these actions will help increase the likelihood that your influencers are receptive to your Twitter advances.

Conclusion

The goal of these tactics isn't to trick or con anyone into following or helping you. The goal is to build genuine relationships.

Apply these tactics to your own strategy. As you identify influencers and add value on Twitter, you'll build a community that shows exponential results.

What do you think? Have you found any great ways to jump-start an effective Twitter community? Please leave your questions and comments in the box below.
