How to Use Twitter Events to Grow Your Network Posted: 17 Mar 2014 02:20 AM PDT Twitter is a great platform and it truly rocks for person-to-person networking. But what if you want to grow your network or find more people to connect with offline? This is where Twitter events can be very useful. Twitter events allow you to network at specific times with larger groups of people through the use of hashtags. Twitter events can help you find people to build your own Twitter network. And as you participate in these events, you will increase your Twitter authority on the topics you discuss. You can even create your own Twitter events to drive your networking and social media marketing. 6 Types of Twitter EventsFirst you need to identify the groups of people you want to network with. Then you should choose the types of events where it's easy and comfortable for you to network with these people. This is how you can slowly build up meaningful one-on-one relationships with people who matter to you and to your business. Fortunately there are several different types of groups gathering around specific topics on Twitter at specific times. Here are events that take place offline where people use Twitter as a communication tool to share their experience of the in-person event. #1: Live events. You've probably seen Twitter hashtags used by people tweeting from conferences. People can tweet about any kind of live event. If you want to get the most out of your Twitter networking at a live event, you should do as Adam Vincenzini says and plan ahead to ensure viral Twitter coverage of live events. #2: Tweetups. Tweetups are when you meet your Twitter connections in real life. Tweetups can be impromptu events or with slightly more organization. And they're a great way to do some traditional offline networking.
#3: Large-scale offline Twitter events. Some offline events such as the Twestival fundraising event are organized on a wider scale and bring a large Twitter community together. These are also interesting places to expand your Twitter network if the community is a good fit for your business. Here are some events that only take place on Twitter: #4: Current events. Many businesses can benefit from staying current on trending topics and participating in relevant Twitter conversations. Some current events or breaking news may give you reason to create your own Twitter discussion or chat event. #5: Twitter Interviews. You can conduct Twitter Interviews with different communication goals. You can do the interview like a journalist or, as this is on Twitter, you can conduct it more like a game show, with a short set of questions aimed at having more fun. Choose the kind of Twitter interview to use to give you the networking environment you prefer. #6: TweetChats. There are a number of regularly scheduled TweetChats. Small Business Buzz, or @sbbuzz on Twitter, holds chats every Tuesday to discuss small business topics. Another interesting regular TweetChat takes place on Thursdays, @lrnchat to discuss learning and social media. It's easy to see how you can expand your Twitter network by finding TweetChats with your preferred audience. Variety in CommunicationIt's important to note that people use multiple social media platforms for communication. Conversations are not limited to Twitter. There are also interesting events to look for outside Twitter and then come back and follow the contacts you meet there on Twitter. Facebook. Many events are shared on Facebook. Be sure to follow the people you meet on Twitter, find them on Facebook and have a look at what they share and discuss there. LinkedIn. Be sure to check out LinkedIn events too. Although it requires a little bit of research, it's often easy to create strong relationships when you connect with the same people on different social media platforms. It's interesting to note that one-on-one networking is usually easier to initiate on Twitter. Tools for Twitter EventsHashtags. Hashtags are key. They enable people to gather into groups on Twitter. This is how you find others interested in similar topics. You can read more about how to follow hashtags in this previous article. Twitter tools. Many Twitter applications come and go, but they often have some great features and make Twitter networking easier and more fun. Unfortunately, there isn't a solution to fit all of your needs in following or creating Twitter events. So it's always worthwhile doing a little research to look for what's useful for you. Here are some Twitter applications you may find interesting: TweetChat, Tweetvite, and TweetMyEvents. Event tools. Sometimes you simply need an event management tool. There are a variety of online tools to help you: Eventbrite, Amiando and meetup are popular event tools. But again, you'll need to check them out to find the one best suited to your particular needs. Social Media NetworkingTwitter is only one social media communication tool. Other social media platforms work well when combined with Twitter networking. For example, many people share photos from events on Flickr and they often share the links to their photos on Twitter. The comments on these photos are also a great resource to help you find people to follow and grow your network. You can also do the same research with YouTube videos, Posterous pages and any other social media platform your audience frequents. In addition, Foursquare and other geo-location applications are making it easier to create events and bring people together in person. This is why more and more businesses will be including event networking in their social media marketing plans. And Twitter plays a key role in developing your network, thanks to its ease of real-time one-on-one networking. What other events on Twitter do you use to grow your Twitter network? Have you participated in a Tweetup? If so, what was your experience? Please share them in the comments below. On my Internet travels I often come across images and pics that put a smile on my face and I want a share a few with you. As an avid social media observer and user, I totally understand the humour behind some of these funny social media signs. Many reveal how ingrained the communication medium has become in our daily lives – for better or for worse. Recognizing this and adding a large dose of humour is what make these social media signs so good. Here’s my top ten funny social media signs: As believable as it looks, the ‘Metropolitan Etiquette Authority’ is not real. The official-looking etiquette signs having been appearing around Manhattan, New York and are the creation of artist Jay Shells How many wish they had paid attention to the wise words on this sign as they check their social media news feed on a Sunday morning? This sign was originally spotted when Facebook introduced the Timeline but as the social media behemoth continually tinkers with the design they may as well keep it illuminated. In homage to the street artist Banksy, this graffiti reveals what we all feel but are too ashamed to admit when no social media love is shown for our witty and insightful updates. Pleased to see this funny social media sign got one Like as it made me smile. Makes me realise how much street architecture there actually is on Facebook with their wall and posts. Hat tip to St.Giles Presbyterian Church for their humour and great to see even religion recognises the power and reach of social media. Oh the irony! And judging by the photo filter and soft focus of this image, the photographer actually has. Combining the cupcake revolution and the well-known ‘donut’ sign, Social Churn have created a concise yet remarkably accurate way to explain social media. For some reason this restaurant does not share the love for Facebook. Maybe Mark Zuckerberg visited and did not leave a tip. Good advice. In fact you could add Snapchat, Instagram and Vine to the list. Seems many now put social media ahead of personal safety. A person maybe in a lot of pain as a result but heck, there’s always the chance of going viral! The post 10 funny social media signs appeared first on Muddywall. How to Draw People to Your Facebook Page Again and Again Posted: 16 Mar 2014 10:14 PM PDT Are you looking for creative ways to bring people to your Facebook page? Does your business use Facebook to connect with people? Used the right way, Facebook apps can help you boost engagement and visibility by repeatedly drawing fans to your page. In this article you'll learn how 6 types of Facebook apps keep your fans coming back to your Facebook page again and again. #1: "Contact Us" AppsThe easier you make it for people to get in touch with you, the better. Use a contact app to let your fans/customers send email requests to specific departments within your company for more information. For example, you can use an app to streamline the contact process and send fans straight to whoever handles sales, customer support or press inquiries, without them ever leaving your Facebook page.
In this image, AT&T allows fans to contact their entire customer service staff through a custom app. Link to your contact app whenever someone comments on a post and asks for more information, and they can get the help they need right from your Facebook page. #2: Event AppsIf you frequently host events, an event app lets you easily promote what's happening now and what you have going on down the road. Facebook offers a default version of an events app within the status update box that you can use to create events, but you're limited to a generic look. Here, Northstar California Resort uses the default Facebook Events app to inform fans of upcoming events. Use a third-party provider's app to create events so you can customize the look of the event invite announcement to complement your Facebook page and/or website. This helps ensure that your fans/friends don't view the alert as spam. A third-party event app lets you customize the look of your event listing. #3: Fan Reward AppsWhen your fans are interested in your brand enough to like your page, rewarding them says you appreciate and value their attention. It's easy to reward your loyal fans and customers with access to special deals with a Facebook Exclusive or Coupon app that keeps your brand top of mind. This is especially helpful if you are an e-tailer. Link fans from the app to your website where they can buy the deal and the conversion process is simplified. GFS Storm Shelters offers an exclusive coupon to people who like their Facebook page. Create offers regularly and your fans will get into the habit of checking your page to see if there are offers available only to them. #4: RSS Feed AppsDoes your business have a blog? It's always smart to reach out to your fans/customers where they are, and installing an RSS feed app to bring your blog to your Facebook page is an easy way to do this. After you install the RSS feed app, pin the RSS app to the top of your page to show off your latest content, then post status updates with a "Click here to see what's new" message that links to the RSS feed app. HubSpot lists available jobs through a custom RSS feed app. With every RSS feed status update you post, your fans will click over to the app on your page to read the full article—a great way to boost page visits and keep your brand in fans' thoughts. #5: Countdown AppsIf your company is close to hitting a milestone or goal, let your fans share in the excitement. Build an app that lets them count down to the goal along with you, or create a calendar and allow people to vote on which day they think the goal will be met. Smith Brothers recently let their fans in on the countdown to eggnog being back for purchase on October 14. Give your fans a way to participate in building the anticipation for a celebration or a special release and they'll keep returning to your page to make sure they don't miss anything. #6: Giveaway and Contest AppsApps for hosting contests and giveaways are the most popular apps you'll find on Facebook. And with good reason: promotions drive traffic and significantly increase engagement—but only if you do them right. Lots of factors go into running a successful contest, but there are three things you must do:
Everyone loves the chance to win something special and the process doesn't have to be elaborate. Build a giveaway app that invites fans to sign up for a chance to win a gift from your brand each month. The Marc Restaurant offers an ongoing promotion for dinner for two on their Facebook page. Photo contests are popular because people love taking, looking at and sharing photos. Build a photo contest app that lets fans upload their photos. As photos are added, open the voting and encourage those who entered to reach out to their friends to vote on their submission. Pit Bulls and Parolees asks fans to submit photos of their pit bulls for a contest and offers extra points when participants include text that dispels pit bull myths and educates users. It doesn't matter what type of contest you run. If the end goal of your contest is page visits, be sure to include a component—like monthly entries or a vote system—that nudges fans and their friends to return to your page and use your app more than once. Conclusion All of these apps can be built with most third-party app providers. Using Facebook apps that provide customer service, share event details, offer news and include your fans in celebrations is a great way to enliven your Facebook page. Keep your apps updated consistently and your fans will keep coming back for more. What do you think? How do you use apps to drive traffic to your Facebook page? What app can your page not do without? How to Use #Twitter for #Business and #Marketing Posted: 16 Mar 2014 01:49 PM PDT Is Twitter a part of your social media marketing? Or have you let your Twitter marketing drop off lately? In any case, with the latest Twitter updates, trends in multi-screen usage and real-time marketing, you'll likely want to take a fresh look at what Twitter has to offer. Here's a checklist of everything your business needs to do to get on (or back on) Twitter and start seeing great results. About TwitterTwitter is a short message communication tool that allows you to send out messages (tweets) up to 140 characters long to people who subscribe to you (followers). Your tweets can include a link to any web content (blog post, website page, PDF document, etc.) or a photograph or video. If a picture is worth a thousand words, adding an image to a tweet greatly expands what you can share to beyond the 140-character limit for tweets. People follow (subscribe) to your Twitter account, and you follow other people. This allows you to read, reply to and easily share their tweets with your followers (retweet). How Twitter Is UniqueIn the social media world, Twitter falls into the category of microblogging tools because of the short, disconnected messages it distributes. Other microblogging tools include Tumblr, FriendFeedand Plurk. Twitter shares some features with the most common social media tools (Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+ and YouTube). However, the differences really define Twitter.
Now let's dive into how you can use Twitter for your business. Step #1: Present Your BrandYour Twitter account and profile are the foundation of your Twitter experience. It's your chance to tell your business story to the Twitter community. It is important that your Twitter presence have the same look and feel as your other online tools. This helps people identify your business and builds trust. Choose an account name and images consistent with your other online presences and your brand. Choose Your Twitter Username Nothing expresses your brand on Twitter more than your account username. This name appears next to all of your tweets, and is how people identify you on Twitter. An example of a small business with a Twitter username that matches their website domain. Choose between your personal name (best for professional individuals) and your business name. Avoid using punctuation to keep your name easy to type on mobile devices. If your exact business name is not available, choose a similar name for consistency. Profile Images Twitter uses two different images to represent your account. It's important that you take advantage of both of these images to tell your business story. You upload these images under Profile in your account settings. Your Twitter profile photo is a square photo that appears next to every tweet you send. You can use either your company logo or your headshot for your profile photo. An example of a Twitter user with a headshot for his profile picture. Note: Many small businesses use their business name for the account and a personal photo for the profile photo. This adds a personal touch to your Twitter account. Your Twitter profile header is a large background photo where you can tell a story about your business. Similar to the Facebook cover photo, your header photo appears at the top of your profile page. An example of a header photograph that tells the brand's story. You can also customize the background that people see when they visit your Twitter account. You can create a graphic file so it matches your business branding. You upload this image under Design in your profile settings. Example of a small business user who has updated his Twitter background with his company branding. Step #2: Build a Strong FoundationIt's important that you complete your Twitter account profile completely. Each feature gives more details about your business that contribute to your business story. Don't miss these three important features under Profile in your account settings. The location, website and bio portions of your profile provide important information about your business to other Twitter users.
Step #3: Start Following PeopleWhen you follow another Twitter user, you subscribe to read what they share. So be selective about whom you follow, especially at first. To follow a user, you find their user profile and click on the Follow button. One simple way to follow new people is to locate their profile and click the Follow button. Twitter has strict rules about what they call aggressive following and aggressive following churn, so be careful and take it slow. You don't want to get your account suspended in your first week because of suspicious activity. Note: Your Twitter experience is defined by whom you follow, not by who follows you. Pay attention to your follow choices to give yourself a great Twitter experience. In general, start following people in these categories:
Twitter can help you find people you know by scanning your email address book. While you are out following people, you may notice that people are starting to follow you. Don't worry if you don't know these people. Stay focused on whom you follow for now. Step #4: Start TalkingTalking on Twitter is different from every other social media site. It's a fast-paced smorgasbord of ideas and sentence fragments. It's hectic, but it's also fun. Give yourself a little time to get your feet wet. Listen to others. Jump in when you feel comfortable. Start talking as you get your bearings. In general, there are five types of Twitter messages:
Step #5: Talk SmarterAfter you master the five types of tweets, you are ready to attack the big question: What should I talk about on Twitter? For every business, the answer is different. In general, you want to find the sweet spot between what your target audience wants to hear and things that promote your business. For many businesses, the answer is to focus on how your products and services benefit your customers. Give people useful information and answer their questions, and they will consider you a valuable member of their community. That's an important first step to winning a new customer. There's a real art to writing a headline-style message on Twitter. Experiment with different ways to say the same thing, and see what gets the most response. With only 140 characters, it's important that every word pull its weight in your messages. Over time, the quality of what you share will help you grow a strong Twitter following. Now, you are ready to take a step back and come up with a Twitter communication plan. Your plan focuses your Twitter conversation on topics designed to draw in potential customers and publish your tweets at the times you are most likely to engage people. Step #6: Drive Traffic to Your Website and BlogTwitter is a great tool for driving traffic to your website and blog. To do this, you create a tweet around a link, writing a message that compels people to click to learn more. Because space is at a premium in a tweet, there isn't room to post the entire web address. That's why all of the Twitter tools allow you to shorten your web addresses using a URL shortener. When you use Twitter.com, the Twitter URL shortener uses just 20 characters for your web address, no matter how long the actual web address. Step #7: Connect Your Online PresenceNow that you have Twitter rolling along, it's time to integrate it into your overall online business presence. There are three ways to do this:
Another way you can move the Twitter conversation to your blog or website is by embedding a tweet. This allows you to select any tweet and insert it into a blog post, for example. By embedding the tweet, you allow people who visit your blog post to jump into the Twitter conversation. Hover over any tweet you want to embed, click on the More link that becomes visible and choose Embed Tweet. Here's how an embedded tweet looks: Step #8: Get Mobile With TwitterNearly every cell phone can connect you with your Twitter audience.
The Twitter app on the iPhone allows you to perform nearly every Twitter activity from your phone that you can do on Twitter.com. Twitter allows you to set up push notifications to your smartphone so you know when selected activities happen on Twitter:
With Twitter, a speedy response is best, and push notifications make it easy for you to know when things are happening for you on Twitter. Step #9: Share Photographs in Your TweetsPeople love to look at pictures, so include photographs in your tweets whenever possible. You don't have to be a professional photographer or have a fancy camera. All you need is a smartphone. You can share your photograph from your desktop on Twitter.com or from the Twitter app on your mobile phone. Get into the habit of taking photos of your business activities that you canshare with your Twitter community. Twitter integrates into your smartphone's camera roll. This allows you to easily share photos you have taken with your Twitter followers. You can tweet directly from the photos stored on your smartphone, as shown here on an iPhone. Twitter adds the photo to your tweet and makes it available for everyone to see. A tweet with a photo allows your followers to view the photo within their tweet timeline. Twitter adds every photo you share to a photo (and video) gallery. The first six appear on your profile page. Take advantage of this feature to share pictures that tell your business story. Twitter shares the six most recent photos or videos you share in the gallery on your profile page. Step #10: Add Video to Your Twitter TimelineVideo is another powerful way to tell people about your business. You can add videos to your Twitter timeline, but you cannot add them directly from Twitter. You must first upload them to another service like YouTube, and then link to them in your tweet. When a tweet contains a link to a video, Twitter allows you to play the video within the tweet. Click on View media to open the video player. Twitter allows you to play videos without leaving the platform. Recently, Twitter launched a new video service called Vine that allows you to take short, 6-second videos from the Vine app and play them on an endless loop inside Twitter. Like other videos, simply click View media to start playing the Vine video attached to a tweet. A tweet with a Vine video. Twitter plays the video on an endless loop. Twitter also adds your Vine videos to your profile gallery. If you are not sure how your business can take advantage of this exciting new information-sharing tool, check out these examples of how businesses are using Vine to tell their story. Step #11: Organize Your Followers Into Conversation ListsAs you follow more people, it can be challenging to focus on the information coming from specific people and groups. That's where Twitter lists come in. A Twitter list allows you to separate the Twitter accounts you follow into groups. You might create separate lists for:
A list allows you to see the tweets from the list members as a separate Twitter timeline. This distinguishes them from the crowd so you can pay attention to what these people say. You can also share tweets from a list on your website using a widget (explained in this article). You can organize your lists in any way that helps you. You can create one or many lists. You can also make your lists public or private.
To review the public lists created by any Twitter user, display their profile page. Then click Lists in the left menu. Their public lists appear in the right column. Here's a Twitter account with many public lists. Click on Lists on the left to see their public lists in the main column. To view the tweet timeline for the members of a list, click on the list name. Here's an example of a Twitter timeline for people contained in a public list called SmallBiz Most Influential created by Twitter user D&B Credibility. To add someone to a list, display his or her profile. Click the gear icon and choose add or remove from lists. Then check or uncheck them from your list of Twitter lists. You can add any person to your lists, even if you don't follow him or her. Step #12: Expand Your Audience With HashtagsMost people's Twitter experience is limited to the people they follow. It's always a good idea to keep looking for new, fresh voices to follow to keep expanding your online conversations. There are two great ways to expand your Twitter audience beyond your circle. Hashtags appear in tweets to identify a common topic or theme. They use the pound (or hash) sign followed by a unique identifier. For example:
Scroll through your timeline to spot tweets with a hashtag. When you see a tweet with a hashtag, click on the hashtag to see a list of all tweets that include the same hashtag. You will see tweets from people you do not follow. When you click on a hashtag or do a search on it, you get a list of tweets from all Twitter accounts that use the hashtag. If you attend a conference, the conference may ask all of the attendees to include the conference hashtag in their tweets. This way, hashtags pull together the conference tweets into one huge conversation, even though you may not be following all of those people. You can create a hashtag unique for your business and use it in your marketing to help people find your company and the conversations around it. In fact, hashtags are a great way to use Twitter for customer service and support. Step #13: Pinpoint Potential Local CustomersPeople often think that social media allows you to connect with people outside of your local geography. And while that is true, one of the great strengths of Twitter is the ability to focus on people in your own backyard. Most businesses need local customers. You can use Twitter to help you find potential customers who live and work near your business. Use Twitter Advanced Search to find people near your location. Use the Advanced Search feature to find people by city and zip code. Use the Places feature to identify your location by city or zip code. Twitter displays a list of people who are tweeting near that location. An example of a local search for "Tempe, Arizona" and the list of tweets in that area. Use this tweet timeline to find people who may be potential customers. You can follow them or add them to a potential local customer list. It's the first step to engaging them in conversation. Take Your Twitter Use for Business to the Next LevelAfter you master these Twitter skills, there are still more ways you can use Twitter to meet your business goals. Here are a few of them to inspire you.

10 Ways to Use Your Personal Facebook Profile for Business Posted: 16 Mar 2014 12:37 PM PDT Are you wondering how to use your personal Facebook profile for your business? One of the reasons Facebook is effective is the personal connection you can make with people. In this article I'll show you 10 ways you can use your personal Facebook profile to impact your business. Why My Personal Facebook Profile?Your Facebook profile and Facebook business page can work together today. On one hand, it's important for a company to have a professional Facebook business page that's in line with the company's messaging, target audience and branding. But the way you use your Facebook personal profile can also play a role in the success of social media for your business, and this is often overlooked. First remember that according to Facebook's Terms of Service, you're not allowed to use your personal profile strictly for business. However, there are many ways you can leverage the activities in your personal profile to benefit your business and build relationships with current and past customers. That being said, you may decide to keep your professional and personal lives and social media activities separate. But as we connect and keep in touch in ways that were impossible before, our personal and professional personas blend together today. So you may consider this separation is no longer realistic for your social media marketing. When you open up and allow some of your personality to blend into the conversations you have with your professional contacts, you can gain trust and respect from your clients and customers. And you can do this on your Facebook profile. Here are 10 ways to leverage your personal Facebook profile for business. #1: Allow Follows to Your Personal ProfileThe Follow function allows people to see all of your public updates without you having to accept them as a friend and see their updates in your news feed. After you turn on the Follow option in your settings, you'll want to pay attention to the privacy settings in the posts you share on your personal profile. When you post a status update to your profile, you can choose to make it visible to Friends, to any lists you have set up or to Public. Use this feature to filter updates about your family to Friends, and updates about your business or things that you're comfortable sharing publicly to Public. Your privacy stays intact and your industry content remains highly visible. The other great thing about this feature is that anyone you don't accept as a friend automatically becomes a follower, so you can quickly and easily build up a big audience with little effort. #2: Celebrate MomentsHow do you share about your business or company without talking about it in an annoying way? Celebrate moments. You're sure to have amazing moments at your company that are awesome to share, a fun Friday afternoon BBQ, a promotion for someone on the team or the addition of an exciting new feature or widget to your product or service. The way that you talk about these things is key. This isn't a press release, and this isn't your company business page. This is your personal Facebook page, so use language and tone that's in line with who you are and your personality. Check into company events or post a fun photo. Share something exciting, funny or behind-the-scenes, just as you'd share a moment that happened with your family or friends. #3: Catch People Doing Something RightUse your Facebook personal profile to publicly recognize and congratulate a colleague on a job promotion, a career move or just for doing an incredible job. When you post the status update, make sure to tag the person. Depending on the context, you may want to post the update publicly or within a private company group. People crave recognition, and what better forum to recognize someone than in a group with their peers! #4: Use Graph Search to Reach InfluencersWith the new Graph Search, you have the ability to expand your network and connect with people who are influencers in your world. Perhaps you want to reach out to someone at another company, a potential client or customer or even a journalist. In Graph Search, type: "Friends of friends who work for (company)". Leveraging the power of friends of friends is still in its infancy in the social media world, but in real life we've been doing this for years. Ask your friends and colleagues to introduce you to second- and third-tier connections. Now with Graph Search, you can easily see whom you're connected to via friends of friends and then reach out to them to see if they would be so kind as to introduce you to each other in a private message. #5: Tell Your StoryWhen your personal profile becomes more focused on what you're excited and passionate about, it's natural to include a small number of posts about your company. It's a great opportunity to tell the story of what it feels like to love what you do or where you work! These posts provide a great opportunity to include a tag for anyone in the post who's appropriate and to use relevant hashtags that are now searchable, so your post is seen by a wider audience. #6: Tag Your Company PhotosWhile you can't tag people in a photo on your company Facebook business page, you can tag people you're personally friends with. You can also revive the life of an old photo post by tagging it, which brings it back into the news feed. When you tag someone, they receive a notification, it goes onto their timeline and, depending on their settings, it may also get into their news feed. This widens the number of people who see the post, thereby increasing likes and engagement for your page. Make sure you tag responsibly and only tag people who are in the photo. #7: Leave Facebook Voice MessagesOne of the recent upgrades to Facebook private messages is the addition of Facebook voice messages. This easy-to-use feature is often overlooked. Simply go to your Messages using either the Facebook mobile app or the Facebook Messenger mobile app and record a message of any length. Reach out and send someone a personal voice greeting for a birthday or any other occasion. It's a little thing that most people still don't know about, so it's a great way to surprise colleagues, customers or clients to let them know you're thinking about them. #8: Give a Facebook GiftPeople are sharing more than ever before on social networks. Are you paying attention to what's happening with your key clients, customers and contacts? Did one of them recently get married? Receive a job promotion? Have a baby? Facebook Gifts make it easy to surprise them with a thoughtful and unexpected gift. Simply choose the gift, pick the recipient, fill out a card and add your credit card information. Then, the recipient gets a notification that they received a gift, accepts it and fills out their mailing address. It's that simple! You can spend $5, $100 or more to send a Starbucks card to a coffee addict, a donation to someone's favorite charity, a nice bottle of wine or even some yummy treats. #9: Find More Intel on the People You Want to Work WithBefore you pick up the phone or send an email to a potential client or job applicant, do you Google them? Do you Google their Facebook profile? It's one thing to see their professional experience on LinkedIn, but it's another to see what they post publicly on Facebook—to see who they are as a person. View your customers' Facebook presence to help you get to know them and learn how to build a rapport with them. You can search for someone on Facebook using Facebook Graph Search, but I've found Google searches to be more effective. #10: Set Up Facebook ListsI saved my favorite tip for last. One of the most important things you can do to leverage your personal profile for business is to set up custom lists. I recommend you set up a list for current customers and clients whom you're connected to on Facebook, and remember to set up a list for potential customers and clients. Now, instead of seeing posts from the hundreds of people you're connected to, you see the people who are most relevant to your business. This makes it easy to comment on, like and share any of their content that resonates with you. But it must happen from your personal profile for it to feel and be authentic. Make it a point to look at these lists every day. This is where you see people share their ups and downs, their family, their vacations, their favorite restaurants and the things that make them tick. Engage with them. Every like, comment and share adds up because relationships are built with small interactions over the course of time. Connect with them through a post, a Facebook voice message, a Facebook gift or even an old-fashioned phone call to build a long-term relationship. Over to You Instead of approaching your Facebook updates randomly, put a plan in place and connect with people intentionally on your Facebook profile. Start thinking beyond the status update and take advantage of the enormous opportunities to leverage your personal profile for business to build stronger relationships with your professional contacts. #Howto Use #ManageFlitter to #Increase Your Influence on #Twitter Posted: 16 Mar 2014 11:10 AM PDT My favorite Twitter tool, hands down, is ManageFlitter. It is the best way to effectively manage following and unfollowing large numbers of people on Twitter. Not only can you follow and unfollow en masse, but you can also focus your search criteria to get the most out of those you choose follow. How I use ManageFlitterI use ManageFlitter every day to first follow 100 accounts and then unfollow 100 accounts that aren't following me back. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how to maximize your presence and influence on Twitter by following accounts that matter and unfollowing those that don't follow you back. First, I go to the Follow section and select either the Following or Follower tab. Today I decided to follow 99 people that Jim Dougherty from @leaderswest is following. I choose the Fast Select option and select up to 99 people to follow. ManageFlitter sends out a warning that you might get banned from Twitter if you try to follow more than 100 people per day. Next, I go to the Unfollow section. The Not Following back tab should automatically be selected. Now, I need to sort the list so that the people I followed awhile back, and not those I followed today, are listed on the top. Unfollowing recently followed accounts can also get you in trouble with the Twitter police. I select Order and then Follow Order to sort. I then select from 100 to 1,000 people to Unfollow with a single click. Under default Display settings, I have chosen to exclude people that I have followed in the past 5 days. I also keep a list of whitelisted accounts, which consist of people that I would never want to unfollow – people like my husband and close friends – people that I know if I accidentally unfollowed would certainly end in an awkward conversation. You might want to go ProI have a pro account on ManageFlitter, which I use to manage four to five accounts for consulting work that I do. Each one of my accounts receives special attention, as I grow the community according to its focus. For example, I use the search term soccer to search for accounts of interest to follow for the @GoalShouter Twitter account that I manage. The various filters, such as Relevence, Influence, Listed, permit me to refine these results even further. With the various settings on ManageFlitter, I can focus my efforts where they count. Through growing my presence and influence on Twitter, I have been able to amplify and cultivate communities, which ultimately leads to a greater ROI for the time and money spent on my social media work. I manage all my accounts in about 30 minutes a day, which means I am saving my time and my clients' money. I hope these tips help you to do the same. How #Manageflitter can #help you to achieve #Twitter greatness Posted: 16 Mar 2014 08:48 AM PDT I have shared quite a few Twitter tools on this site, I have spoken quite a bit about Tweepi, now Tweepi was great for a while but I thought I would look at ManageFlitter because I wanted to quickly unfollow non English speaking accounts, I knew I had used a program before that had this facility but could not remember which, anyway I saw that manageflitter had it so I thought I would give it a go. Now what i found was that Tweepi has a lot of sort features, but Manageflitter has some simple "presets" and the added ability to unfollow 80 or so people at a time rather than 20-40 on Tweepi. The other benefit of Manageflitter is the sort facility which lets you very quickly sort for example the time you followed a user, this is very useful say if you are looking at "all people I am following that are not following me back". You want to give people a few days to follow you back so you do not want to follow someone then unfollow them if they do not follow you back in a few minutes. In my opinion the only true way to build a twitter following from scratch is through reciprocation among engaging with people, competitions etc.. anyway Manageflitter tells you exactly what number follower they were, so you look at how many people you are following and say, well… I have this many followers and I had this many the other day so that means i must have followed this person then..
A breakdown of the features of Manageflitter:Unfollow – Free
Unlike some other Twitter management tools, Manageflitter keeps it simple, you either want to use it to fine-tune your results or you just want to simply unfollow or follow certain groups of people. Follow – Pro (From $12 per month)
My favourite features of ManageFlitter:PowerpostBuilt into the suite is Powerpost which lets you schedule tweets and it will even tell you when the best times to tweet them are, when people in a certain area are mostly online, when your top 100 followers are online and more! I have to say this is one of my favourite tools on the site. Tweet Search – ProThe Tweet search tool is an incredible way of getting laser targeted followers. You can search by keyword, i.e. what people have tweeted and where you want to find people i.e. UK and even target as specific as a town or city. ManageFlitter is an indispensable tool, although you will not be able to follow without the pro version I would go as far as to say that the unfollow facilities on ManageFlitter are some of the best I have seen. If I were to summarise I would say it lets you play it basic, it lets you play it mid-way and it lets you play it full-throttle! However you want to use it Manageflitter lets you easily switch between simple follow/unfollow to powerful filtering. My only guidance for ManageFlitter and similar tools is be mindful of "churning" or "aggressive churning". Remember ManageFlitter starts at free and the Pro version at $12 per month. Go check it out: Manage Flitter. It is fair to say that ManageFlitter have some plans in the pipeline and their offering is only going to get better and better. Build a #Powerful #Twitter #Network Posted: 16 Mar 2014 07:36 AM PDT Having a million followers means nothing if none of them pay attention to you. The more responsive you can make your Twitter list the more valuable it will be for you to spread your tweets. With a responsive Twitter list you can get many more retweets, and you will develop an audience that is more likely to engage and interact with your content. A more responsive audience means that your content will get more shares, and more comments, and achieving your online goals will become easier overall. If you want a more responsive Twitter list the following 10 tips will help you achieve that goal: 1. List People OftenA "follow" does not have the significance it once used to. For people who have thousands of followers a single new follower may or may not be important, especially since there are many marketers who use Twitter Marketing Software to auto-follow people. Twitter lists, on the other hand, are usually hand picked by people. People are more likely to pay attention if you list them. If you want to make sure you get the attention of the person you are listing tell them you added them to one of your lists! The more you list, the more the law or reciprocity will kick in and cause others to list you back. List and be listed. 2. Tell your Facebook Friends about TwitterOn Facebook you can let your friends know that you are on Twitter in a variety of ways. The more ways you tell your Facebook friends you are on Twitter, the better your odds are of getting them to follow you. You can post a status update saying: Are you on Twitter? If so post your user name below and let's connect there as well! When I posted status update like this it got huge response from my friends and helped me build deeper connections with my network. Another way you can tell people you are on Twitter, without directly saying so, is to import your tweets using a Twitter application, like Selective Tweets. Selective Tweets automatically imports tweets with the hashtag #fb. Another thing I do on Facebook is include a link to my Twitter account in the "Websites" section of my info tab. 3. Connect with Your Existing ContactsUsing the Find Friends feature of Twitter you can quickly connect with your friends who are already on Twitter. As you can see from the image above there are about five different ways that you can find your friends on Twitter. 4. Follow Highly Targeted peopleBy following highly targeted people on Twitter you greatly increase the chance that they will follow you back. One strategy I use to build highly relevant connections is to use TweetAdder to follow everyone on a Twitter list. You can learn more about TweetAdder here, or check out my video review of TweetAdder. 5. Unfollow Unnecessary PeopleThe more inactive and irrelevant people you can unfollow, the better. Why follow people who have not tweeted in a month, or who use the default Twitter avatar? The free tool Manage Twitter makes it easy to unfollow people who do not follow you and have not tweeted in 30 days or more, or taken the time to change their default profile picture. 6. Engage With Your List!Getting people to follow you is really just the first the first step in connecting with them. The real connections happens through conversation, and engagement. Retweet your followers and reach out to them, and they will be more likely to do the same for you. If you look at many of the Twitter Giants like @BrianSolis or @ChrisBrogan you will notice that many of their tweets are conversational, and this is why their networks are so powerful. People are much more likely to pay attention to you if you pay attention to them. 7. Be a Trust AgentI'm not saying don't have a business, I'm just saying it's going to work out best for you if you do not sell directly with your tweets. Try to build trust with the people you interact with, and if you do this they will consider your products and services on their own. 8. Time Your Tweets for Maximum ResponseThere is a cool Twitter Tool that I recently came across called buffer that simplifies this process. When you add a tweet to your puffer it will automatically schedule at pre-determined time. Buffer streamlines and simplifies tweeting, and you can have up to ten tweets in your buffer for free.
