26 Tips for Using Instagram for Business Posted: 16 Apr 2014 02:45 AM PDT Are you wondering how to use images and short video to enhance your customers' experience? Have you considered creating a brand profile on Instagram to make your brand visible to a new market? Getting started on Instagram is fairly straightforward. Simply sign up for an account (e.g., use the same name as your Twitter handle), add a profile photo (e.g., brand logo) and a link to your website, connect your account to Facebook and let your followers know they can follow you there. It's what to do next that presents a difficulty for many brands. What follows are 26 tips and brand examples, an A-Z guide, for capitalizing on a business presence on Instagram. #1: Acquaint Yourself With How to Use Instagram for BusinessBusinesses have been flocking to Instagram in droves. In response, Instagram started the Instagram for Business blog, which offers tips, brand spotlights, API examples and news from Instagram HQ. Check it out and add it to your reader to keep up to date on some of the coolest ways to use the Instagram platform for business. #2: Balance Fun Images With Pictures From Your BusinessRachel Sprung writes, "Take advantage of the increased real estate you have with the Instagram web page to tell a story with the images. Have a healthy balance of fun images and business pictures." Anthropologie has struck a good balance with their images. Their followers like fun images as well as business ones. A puppy picture received 7,640 likes and a picture of their personal shoppers posing at a company luncheon event received 3,457. Track the engagement on your images to find out what your followers like best! #3: Cultivate a FollowingTim Sae Koo offers 3 helpful tips for getting more followers on Instagram:
Cross-post selected images to your Facebook page with a hashtag that aligns with your campaign or brand image to help people who don't know you're on Instagram to find you there. #4: Debut VideosInstagram's recent Video on Instagram has given Twitter's Vine a serious competitor to contend with. Most notably 15-second, filter-enabled, editable video functionality compared to Vine's 6.5 seconds. Jordan Crook charts the differences between Instagram and Vine in the image below:
#5: Embed Instagram Video in Your Blog or WebsiteLast month, Instagram released a new embed feature for its desktop web browser version. Mike Gingerich provides helpful instructions, in addition to examples for when and how to use Instagram videos. Since you never know who will see your shares on a social networking platform, embed your Instagram video in your blog or website to extend the reach of your content. #6: Follow Your Followers BackThe people you follow on social networking platforms make all the difference in the world. Curiously, many brands on Instagram (some with very large followings) don't follow back. To create strategic relationships on Instagram, find the brands and people you enjoy and can learn from in your followers and follow them back. We'll talk more about this in #23. #7: Generate a Flexible Posting PlanCarley Keenan offers the following advice on the frequency of sharing on Instagram: "You don't need to post on Instagram every day. The 'feed speed' on Instagram is still mostly laid back. If you start posting a lot, you might saturate your followers' feeds, and you don't want to force yourself into the noise too often. Decide what you have ready to post and create a schedule to help you remember what to post when and to track what is working once you get going." #8: Harness the Power of AppsKay Tan put together a list of 20 apps that will enhance your photo-sharing experiences. There are apps that let users print images, search tags and keywords, subscribe to Instagram profiles via email, download all Instagram photos in a single archive folder, plus many more. Use these apps to make Instagram a significant part of your social media marketing strategy. #9: Inspire Potential CustomersAnna Colibri suggests you post photos that are relevant to your brand and potential customers. Whole Foods Market posts representative photos to promote healthy, wholesome food products, store events, sustainability and their active community of customers and employees. Attract your target market with images that share a compelling and inspiring story. #10: Juxtapose Use of Filter Types and No-Filter ImagesInstagram provides a number of filters to change the look and feel of your photos. A study conducted by Simply Measured earlier this year found 59 percent of the world's top brands are now active on Instagram. Their findings also shed light on choices around filtered photos: "Lo-fi is the filter of choice for 14 percent of brands' filtered photos, followed by Valencia with 12 percent, Rise with 12 percent, Amaro with 11 percent, Hudson with 9 percent, Sierra with 9 percent, X-Pro II with 8 percent and Hefe with 7 percent." Marketo also suggests that filters are more than a question of aesthetics, they can say a lot about you! Shake things up a little every now and then, and try out a new filter or go the no-filter route. #11: Kickstart Instagram Efforts With a Change in PerspectiveRuss Meyer recommends that for brands to be successful on Instagram, they need to get past their inherent interest in selling and instead:
Entrust your Instagram presence to someone in the organization who understands how to align images with the interests of your target customer. #12: Leverage Photo Contests on Instagram With FacebookBusinesses can host photo contests on Instagram using hashtags to organize submissions and an RSS feed to follow along with new photos as they're added. Samsung Camera used the hashtag #LiveInTheMoment to successfully promote their Instagram photo contest on their Facebook page. Use Facebook status updates to encourage your fans to enter your Instagram photo contest. #13: Market Your Brand Using TrendsRemember when Twitter's #followfriday seemed somewhat avant-garde? Instagrammers can use a number of trending hashtags to join in a bigger part of the visual community storytelling. Charles Mazzini takes us through the days of the week beginning with #ManCrushMonday and ending with #SelfieSunday. Find a trending hashtag that's relevant to your marketing strategy and participate with images from your brand. #14: Network on InstagramKim Garst writes, "Instagram connects people through photos" and suggests 3 essential ways to create a network:
#15: Optimize Your ProfileInstagram profiles—like their counterparts on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking platforms—need to include brand information in specific ways (e.g., maximum number of characters, specific image sizes, attention to branding). Brandon Gaille has a helpful list of what to include in your profile and Gerry Moran provides an easy-to-digest graphic illustrating where everything shows. Complete your profile with all of the information customers might need to find you and do business with you. #16: Promote Your Business on Both Facebook and InstagramGreat things can happen when a platform is purchased by an entity such as Facebook. Instagram and Facebook as a duo offer brands a unique opportunity for promotion. James Borow explains, "Brands create Instagram videos, share them to their Facebook pages and then boost them into paid media that hits the Facebook news feed, in the same way that they boost text or photo posts. This enables brands to reach Facebook's 818 million monthly active mobile users, which dwarfs Instagram's 130 million. It's profiting from Instagram without having to advertise on Instagram… For now it's all about capturing and sharing the world's moments—and paying to distribute them on the world's largest social network." Capitalize on Facebook's integration of Instagram to reach a wider audience. #17: Quantify and QualifyWant to know how your brand is doing on Instagram? There are image analytics tools such as BlitzMetrics and Curalate that will provide detailed insights. Tim Peterson writes, "Curalate is able to track an Instagram post's likes and comments so that a brand can see how that popularity translates into added followers, but also capitalize on the popularity. Denim brand 7 For All Mankind used the platform to identify that an image was resonating on Instagram. It then pushed that out as a Facebook ad, resulting in the brand's most engaged ad on that platform to date…." Use image analytics to identify images and video that resonate with your fans and followers. #18: Reward FollowersCollins Paris describes how American Express "offers its followers backstage entries to events such as fashion shows, concerts and even the U.S. Open." He recommends that retail brands reward their followers with discount codes and promos. Deliver perks to your followers so they will make viewing your feed content a priority. #19: Showcase Photos of EmployeesShowing your employees at work not only gives a behind-the-scenes view of your company, it's also a way to celebrate staff and show them how much they're valued. A great example is Beaucoup Bakery, which shares pictures of their staff with the hashtag #beaucrew. Acknowledge staff members' skill sets, successes and milestones on Instagram. #20: Treat Followers to a Visual ExperienceSharpie shows followers how their product can be used to "start something" creative. The majority of their photos in their feed show drawings in a myriad of colors. Find a creative way to showcase the use of your company's products and services. #21: Use Industry-Related HashtagsIf you're at an event or location that's designated by a hashtag (something like #smmw13), Jenn Herman recommends you add it to your photos so that event coordinators and other attendees can find them. Track the relevance of your Instagram hashtags with Nitrogram, the Instagram analytics and engagement platform that provides key metrics on hashtags including contributors, content, engagement and context. #22: Video Important Brand MomentsTom Edwards suggests that "Brands can share unique branded experiences, highlight brand advocates, co-create content with audiences, preview products, highlight a specific cause, extend the brand's persona via video, preview upcoming events by adding visual context, share important news, drive promotional awareness, leverage Instagram video for promotion and create videos that show fan appreciation." Capture your company's important moments in 15-second videos and share them with your followers so they feel included. #23: Widen Your Exposure to Other BrandsAs we covered in #6, it's good practice to follow other brands on Instagram. Statigram is a great tool for finding brands and hashtags that relate to your brand. Simply enter the brand name or hashtag into the search box and click Search. In this example, I wanted to see if Target had a profile on Instagram. They do! Use this tool to find, follow and research your competitors on Instagram. #24: eXpose Something NewABC World News often shares a photo about a broadcast they'll be doing later in the day. Use Instagram to give your followers a first look at or sneak preview of an event, a product or news feature. #25: Yuck it UpDonna Amos writes, "While running a business requires dedication, sweat and sometimes tears, it should never be all work and no play. Instagram is perfect for displaying fun times in the office or when you're out and about having lunch or dinner with coworkers. Sharing these types of images with followers speaks volumes. It not only suggests that you don't take life too seriously while on the job, but instead you must be happy and successful in your career." All work and no play will make your brand a dull company on Instagram. Integrate images that show your human side to create stronger connections with your followers. #26: Zap Between Instagrammers' Images and Edit for a Longer FilmLexususa had a cutting-edge vision with their #LexusInstafilm using 212 instagrammers' images to edit together a 3:44 Instagram video to showcase the 2014 Lexus IS.
As one instagrammer says in the video, the Lexusinstafilm is a great example of what Instagram is, "A community that comes together." Transform crowdsourced images into a unique video message that features and highlights the creativity of your loyal followers. Over to You These are just a few tips on how you can use Instagram to create a presence for your business. Check them out and see what works best to enhance your brand. What do you think? Build a #Powerful #Twitter #Network Posted: 16 Apr 2014 01:27 AM PDT Having a million followers means nothing if none of them pay attention to you. The more responsive you can make your Twitter list the more valuable it will be for you to spread your tweets. With a responsive Twitter list you can get many more retweets, and you will develop an audience that is more likely to engage and interact with your content. A more responsive audience means that your content will get more shares, and more comments, and achieving your online goals will become easier overall. If you want a more responsive Twitter list the following 10 tips will help you achieve that goal: 1. List People OftenA "follow" does not have the significance it once used to. For people who have thousands of followers a single new follower may or may not be important, especially since there are many marketers who use Twitter Marketing Software to auto-follow people. Twitter lists, on the other hand, are usually hand picked by people. People are more likely to pay attention if you list them. If you want to make sure you get the attention of the person you are listing tell them you added them to one of your lists! The more you list, the more the law or reciprocity will kick in and cause others to list you back. List and be listed. 2. Tell your Facebook Friends about TwitterOn Facebook you can let your friends know that you are on Twitter in a variety of ways. The more ways you tell your Facebook friends you are on Twitter, the better your odds are of getting them to follow you. You can post a status update saying: Are you on Twitter? If so post your user name below and let's connect there as well! When I posted status update like this it got huge response from my friends and helped me build deeper connections with my network. Another way you can tell people you are on Twitter, without directly saying so, is to import your tweets using a Twitter application, like Selective Tweets. Selective Tweets automatically imports tweets with the hashtag #fb. Another thing I do on Facebook is include a link to my Twitter account in the "Websites" section of my info tab. 3. Connect with Your Existing ContactsUsing the Find Friends feature of Twitter you can quickly connect with your friends who are already on Twitter. As you can see from the image above there are about five different ways that you can find your friends on Twitter. 4. Follow Highly Targeted peopleBy following highly targeted people on Twitter you greatly increase the chance that they will follow you back. One strategy I use to build highly relevant connections is to use TweetAdder to follow everyone on a Twitter list. You can learn more about TweetAdder here, or check out my video review of TweetAdder. 5. Unfollow Unnecessary PeopleThe more inactive and irrelevant people you can unfollow, the better. Why follow people who have not tweeted in a month, or who use the default Twitter avatar? The free tool Manage Twitter makes it easy to unfollow people who do not follow you and have not tweeted in 30 days or more, or taken the time to change their default profile picture. 6. Engage With Your List!Getting people to follow you is really just the first the first step in connecting with them. The real connections happens through conversation, and engagement. Retweet your followers and reach out to them, and they will be more likely to do the same for you. If you look at many of the Twitter Giants like @BrianSolis or @ChrisBrogan you will notice that many of their tweets are conversational, and this is why their networks are so powerful. People are much more likely to pay attention to you if you pay attention to them. 7. Be a Trust AgentI'm not saying don't have a business, I'm just saying it's going to work out best for you if you do not sell directly with your tweets. Try to build trust with the people you interact with, and if you do this they will consider your products and services on their own. 8. Time Your Tweets for Maximum ResponseThere is a cool Twitter Tool that I recently came across called buffer that simplifies this process. When you add a tweet to your puffer it will automatically schedule at pre-determined time. Buffer streamlines and simplifies tweeting, and you can have up to ten tweets in your buffer for free. 5 Ways to Combine Twitter Scheduling With Real Time Activities Posted: 16 Apr 2014 12:48 AM PDT Is there an easy way to engage with people in real-time while balancing Twitter scheduling needs? Do you know when to schedule your posts to best reach your followers? Are you looking for ways to join in discussions with real-time posts? In this article, you'll discover how to use both scheduled and real-time social media posts in your social media strategy. Why Schedule Tweets? We've all heard that social media means being social, being there when the conversation happens, in real-time. While Facebook has allowed brands to schedule updates for some time, many marketers and brand managers see Twitter's recent addition of scheduled tweets as significant proof of the necessity of post scheduling. Keep reading to find out how you can be there when your followers are most active. #1: Find Out When Your Followers Are on TwitterThe best way to reach your followers with your content is to know when your audience is online, and schedule your updates for these times. A great tool to help you find those hours is Tweriod. Tweriod looks at your followers' recent tweets and provides you with analytics and data that show when your followers are the most active. All you have to do is adjust the days and times you post on Twitter. To further optimize your tweet delivery, use these statistics to build a sharing pattern that capitalizes on user behaviors:
#2: Share Content Throughout the Day to Maintain VisibilityWhether it's Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, your followers and fans are based in different places and time zones, and that makes it almost impossible for you to be active in real time whenever they are. It's important to keep your social stream fully active with interesting content throughout the entire day to grow your position as a thought leader in your market. While a good content strategy should include creating original content, it's well worth your time to supplement your own content with content from others that's relevant, interesting and new to your audience. More content means more updates, which means more visibility. During your morning routine, use an online tool to help you find content, then schedule the posts for delivery. Schedule your updates out over the day rather than publishing too many in a short period of time, and you'll increase your CTR. Here are a couple of tips to help as you add other people's content into your shared updates:
#3: Schedule for Holidays and EventsSocial media traffic is significantly greater during holidays and other major events and 57% of users turn to Twitter to determine what stores to visit. Now that you know, it's up to you to catch their attention. High-traffic seasons are the best time to feed your audience with posts that offer special coupons to existing and new customers, or to show that your brand cares by highlighting its holiday giving. To make the most of important dates, adjust your social media strategy to include updates or campaigns for each holiday or event that takes place for your customers. Make sure to keep these tips in mind when you post during special times:
#4: Join Discussions in Real TimeNow that you've got your scheduled sharing in order, you can take time to join in real-time conversations when people are talking about your brand, your competitor and your market. Here are three ways to find these conversations. Mention Use Mention to permanently follow your brand's topics and keywords online. Not only does Mention let you create alerts for relevant expressions you define, but you can blacklist irrelevant expressions to filter for more targeted alerts and filter in specific languages, which is very useful for localization if you're a global brand. Hashtagify Hashtagify lets you see which hashtags were trending on Twitter for the last week or month: Because many industries have specialized conversations that are curated with hashtags, it's a good idea to find hashtag conversations around your own brand or product. Look for keywords that are related to your brand's identity and search for a specific hashtag to see its popularity. When you know which hashtags are best for you to follow, join a conversation with your real-time voice. Tagboard Tagboard makes it easy to check out and respond to all of the recent and trending tweets around any hashtag. Very helpful if your brand uses a unique hashtag to spark conversations. Use any of these tools to respond to mentions of your brand in a timely and proactive manner. #5: Take Advantage of Real-Time OpportunityAnticipating and scheduling posts for holidays and special events should be well-planned. But your team should also be prepared for marketing opportunities from real-time incidents such as sports games or political events. During the XLVII Super Bowl, the lights in the stadium went out, causing an unexpected stop in the game. Around 100 million viewers went to social media to express their frustration, where they found this brilliant tweet by Oreo: Within the first hour, the tweet received 10,000+ retweets, 18,000+ favorites and 5000+ shares and the media went crazy over it. The result of one well-timed, creative tweet: $0 spent on marketing, 525,000,000 earned impressions. When uncommon events happen, the media turn to social media to get the answers, drama and creativity, and that's where all brands have their chance to hit the spot. Post a relevant, real-time update as soon as something happens and you increase your chances for massive exposure. That's effective social media marketing. Summary Great social media campaigns and strategy help you be in the right places at the right times. The tips in this article will help you use both scheduled and real-time posts to execute a more effective social media strategy. You'll reach your audience with more regularity and increase your visibility where it matters the most. What do you think? What methods do you use when you schedule posts? #HowTo Use ManageFlitter to Bulk Follow People on #Twitter Posted: 15 Apr 2014 11:35 PM PDT My favorite Twitter tool, hands down, is ManageFlitter. It is the best way to effectivelymanage following and unfollowing large numbers of people on Twitter. Not only can you follow and unfollow en masse, but you can also focus your search criteria to get the most out of those you choose follow. How I use ManageFlitterI use ManageFlitter every day to first follow 100 accounts and then unfollow 100 accounts that aren't following me back. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how to maximize your presence and influence on Twitter by following accounts that matter and unfollowing those that don't follow you back.
First, I go to the Follow section and select either the Following or Follower tab. Today I decided to follow 99 people that Jim Dougherty from @leaderswest is following. I choose the Fast Select option and select up to 99 people to follow. ManageFlitter sends out a warning that you might get banned from Twitter if you try to follow more than 100 people per day. Next, I go to the Unfollow section. The Not Following back tab should automatically be selected. Now, I need to sort the list so that the people I followed awhile back, and not those I followed today, are listed on the top. Unfollowing recently followed accounts can also get you in trouble with the Twitter police. I select Order and then Follow Order to sort. I then select from 100 to 1,000 people to Unfollow with a single click. Under default Display settings, I have chosen to exclude people that I have followed in the past 5 days. I also keep a list of whitelisted accounts, which consist of people that I would never want to unfollow – people like my husband and close friends – people that I know if I accidentally unfollowed would certainly end in an awkward conversation. You might want to go ProI have a pro account on ManageFlitter, which I use to manage four to five accounts for consulting work that I do. Each one of my accounts receives special attention, as I grow the community according to its focus. For example, I use the search term soccer to search for accounts of interest to follow for the @GoalShouter Twitter account that I manage. The various filters, such as Relevence, Influence, Listed, permit me to refine these results even further. With the various settings on ManageFlitter, I can focus my efforts where they count. Through growing my presence and influence on Twitter, I have been able to amplify and cultivate communities, which ultimately leads to a greater ROI for the time and money spent on my social media work. I manage all my accounts in about 30 minutes a day, which means I am saving my time and my clients' money. I hope these tips help you to do the same. Originally posted 2014-03-16 04:22:28. Here are some of the things you'll discover in this show: Google+ Hangouts MarketingWhat is a Google+ hangout? Brandee states that first of all, it's free. Google describes it as a unification of their video, chats and messenger service all in one place. It was a replacement for Google talk and Google chat. Hangouts can either be private or you can stream live to your YouTube channel with Hangouts on Air. Brandee explains that if you're a consultant or coach, you can use hangouts like you would Skype. The quality of the video is amazing. If you want to record your private hangout sessions, then you will have to use Camtasia or ScreenFlow. These hangouts are great to use for team meetings, consulting, coaching or when you privately advise people. With a hangout on air, you can host yourself and up to nine other people. You can all be on the video at the same time, where you can chat and give a presentation. This can be done with private hangouts and hangouts on air. You'll discover why you need to keep control of the sound-activated screen and what you need to do. Hangouts on air stream live to your YouTube channel. It's linked to your Google+ page. If you have a Google+ profile or a Google+ business page, you link it to your YouTube channel. You need to have your YouTube channel verified for uploads of more than 15 minutes and most hangouts run longer than that. The great advantage when you stream live to your YouTube channel is that at the end of the broadcast, you have unlimited YouTube content. You'll find out what you need to add once you have finished the live stream to be able to optimize your video marketing. When you stream live, it also runs on your Google+ profile page at the same time. Once you start a hangout on air, you can take the embed codes and share them on a Facebook tab, website or blog post. You can then direct people to watch it there. There's also a Hangouts on Air page that lists all of the hangouts that are currently on air. Listen to the show to learn about how you should name your hangouts to grab people's attention. How does a hangout differ from a webinar? Brandee first saw hangouts as a possible replacement for webinars. A lot of the webinar platforms are expensive and if you only do a few, it can be hard to justify the cost. Many webinar platforms base their price on the number of viewers. But with a hangout on air, you have unlimited viewership. Brandee explains how she has done webinars by herself with a slide presentation embedded on a website that has unlimited viewers. With hangouts on air, you don't need to buy expensive plugins for your website. People can enter their email address and then flip over to a Watch Live page. You'll discover the best option to help build engagement and keep viewers from getting distracted. The advantage with hangouts is you have the opportunity to share an image with your audience, plus have that face-to-face connection, all in one place. You can share content with both private hangouts and hangouts on air. All you have to do is press the Screen Share button. Brandee's trick is to never share your desktop screen. Always make sure you close everything down first, except for what you want to share. If you use Keynote, you need to convert your slides into PowerPoint, then load them into your Google Drive and select Present in New Window. You'll also learn how you can build your slides in Google Drive and Brandee's secret trick. Listen to the show to find out how to control the main video and swap among guests. Why marketers should consider doing a hangout Brandee says the number-one reason is because it's YouTube. Videos always rank higher in searches and hangouts on air jump very quickly to the first page of Google. With normal video, you have to go through and edit it before it is released; whereas with hangouts on air, you have the live streaming to YouTube. This gives you unlimited YouTube content. If you are strategic with the optimization afterwards, you will skyrocket to the first page on your subject. Remember that people buy from people they know, like and trust. It's a huge opportunity to allow people to get to know you face to face. You'll hear what people can gain from these live experiences. Brandee has had clients who have made $12,000 with one hangout on air alone. You can also create web shows, which help build your list and engagement with your audience. People love it when you mention them live on air. When you have a weekly show at a certain time and are consistent with the people you interview, it's a great benefit to your business. You'll discover how the analytics work for live streaming and what made Brandee's viewers double in 24 hours. If you want to share exclusive content, the best option is to go back into the video once the broadcast has ended and mark it as unlisted. This allows you to share your exclusive content with only the people who registered to watch it. Once you mark it as unlisted, it's pulled out of your YouTube channel. You'll also learn another way to share exclusive content. Brandee shares what equipment she uses for her videos and why there is zero labor involved. Listen to the show to find out about what you need to learn first before you start to record and what Brandee tests before she starts a broadcast. What kind of apps can enhance hangouts? One of Brandee's favorite apps is the Hangout Toolbox. It allows you to have a lower third, where you can put your name and your website address. Even if it's a hangout with others, you still need to have your name, website address and a call to action there. You can also use your logo in the same area. The Hangouts Toolbox has custom overlays, so you can make sure you have a well-branded lower third. It's great for consistency and branding. It helps with when you are on other shows too. Listen to the show to find out what size the lower third needs to be. What you need to know if you are getting started with hangouts Brandee states that you first need to know the answer to "What is your why?" Once you understand this, the next stage is your strategy, which includes where you want people to watch your hangouts. If you're a video person, you'll want to send viewers to your YouTube channel. For a marketing person who wants to build a list, then the best place to send them to is your website and ask for an opt-in. It all depends on where your biggest audience is. As with all marketing, it's about consistency. If your goal is to build relationships and engage your audience, then you might want to do a weekly show. If you want to sell a product, it won't be as often but you will become known for this through your hangouts. It's another marketing tool. You'll hear about two guys who co-host Social Media Maniacs and how within a couple of weeks they went from zero subscribers to thousands. Although hangouts can be any length, the ideal time is around 30-45 minutes. It only works for longer periods if it's high-energy and moves forward. Brandee talks about viewer engagement and what you need to take into account when you ask questions. People love it when you include them in a hangout. Make sure you prompt for questions. The Hangout Toolbox and Comment Tracker will let you pull comments in from your YouTube channel, your Google+ profile and your Twitter account. You can then pop these on the screen. Listen to the show to find out the best way to include comments if the hangout is on your blog. How to promote a hangout First you need to decide what your goal is and where you want to send people. It's the number-one consistency in your marketing. Brandee firmly believes that you should go where your audience is. Never try to drag them to another place. You need to make it as easy as possible for your end users. You'll discover what promotional pieces work best and what you need to include to help drive people to one location. If people happen upon you on the Hangout on Air page or on your YouTube channel, then these are bonus people. When you promote your live event, you need to start 4 days in advance. Brandee uses a plugin for her website, so when you land, you need to fill in your email. Then instead of a double opt-in, it takes you through to the Watch Live page. Brandee shares how she gathers questions for the show and what techniques she uses to remind people of the live hangout. About 30 minutes before you start your hangout on air, Brandee advises to start setting up and making sure the lighting and camera angle are in a good position. Then 15 minutes before you start, you need to invite your guest to come and join you in the "green room." You only start to stream live once you click Start Broadcast. You'll hear how Brandee does one last promotion 5 minutes before the hangout starts. Once the broadcast has finished, the video is available within a couple of minutes in your YouTube Video Manager. You now have the opportunity to add the description, keywords or even edit the video. Brandee shares how to make a trailer for your longer broadcasts and where to add annotations. Listen to the show to hear what Brandee trims off her video. Discovery of the WeekIf you find yourself staring at your screen too long, then a cool tool to check out is f.lux. You can install it on your computer and iPhone/iPad. It coordinates the time of day with the brightness of your screen. As you approach the nighttime, it takes the blue out of the screen and replaces it with red. It's a great option, as it doesn't make the screen so bright if you want to check something when it's dark out.
